Build and save a 3D model and cross-section view (15 minutes)
- Find and select the Anatomy tool.
- Select “Hide all” to hide the 3D anatomy.
- Find and select the Systems list. Expand “Skeletal System” and “Axial Skeleton.” Select the eyeball next to “Thoracic Skeleton” to add this 3D anatomy in normal anatomical coloring.
- Find and expand the “Cardiovascular System.” Expand “Arteries”, “Aorta” and select the sunburst icon next to “Aortic Arch” to add and highlight this 3D anatomy.
- Use the Dissect tool to remove the left ribs and costal cartilages from the 3D model.
- Use the cross-sections tool to add a transverse anatomy cross-section to the 3D model.
- Play with the Skin tool to add transparent skin to the model’s body (you may have to click the “Flip” within the cross-section menu to get skin on the body rather than the head).
- Use the Rotate and Move tools, as well as zoom, to position the 3D model to a left anterolateral view of the aortic arch in the thoracic cage, tilted so that you can see the anatomy cross-section.
- Adjust the cross-sections to show the aortic arch in all three planes (transverse, sagittal, and coronal). Use ctrl (options) + scroll wheel to navigate through cross-section slices and click and drag the mouse to adjust the position of the cross-section in the pane
- Use the Bookmarks tool to add your interactive 3D and cross-section view to your Bookmark Library. Select the Bookmark menu and click the + button. Name your bookmark in this format: Lastname_bookmark and click the checkmark to save it.
- In coming weeks, you will receive a Blackboard assignment notification to submit your bookmark. To submit your bookmark, find your bookmark in the menu and select the “Share” icon next to your Bookmark. The server will generate a URL. Copy this URL and paste it into the Blackboard assignment and submit this for the professor to review.
